Known for her energetic and present demeanor, Jaclyn Sanchez was coined JACKIE BOOM by legendary drummer Steve Jordan during a Bettye LaVette session. A natural born artist, Jaclyn’s formidable years were spent dancing and singing in church, playing violin at age 10, along with piano and congas. Rooted in her Ecuadorian-Cuban American background her immediate environment was a culmination of various cultures, musically leading her toward Disco, Salsa, R&B, Reggae/Dancehall, Gospel, Neo-Soul and Hip-Hop.
Studying Music Business from 2006 to 2008 in the Frost School of Music at the University of Miami, gave Jaclyn the impetus to explore other avenues within the realm of music. Professor Cava Menzies was the catalyst who provided Jaclyn with the tools to venture out into sound engineering.
In 2009, Jaclyn received a scholarship to attend Berklee College of Music where she majored in Music Production & Engineering & Music Business. This undertaking afforded Jaclyn the opportunity to work with numerous recording artists on their debut projects that would directly influence her career,
In 2013, Jaclyn packed up her knowledgeable skills and headed to The Big Apple.
“I moved to New York City to work with producer/bassist Jerry Barnes (Chic) at the iconic Avatar Studios, now known as Power Station. Like with any new job, insecurities started to creep into my psyche, my mentor Prince Charles Alexander would coach me through setting up MPCs and session flow, until one day he stopped answering my calls and the training wheels had to come off. Jerry had a huge impact on my sensibilities as an engineer. It was the best entry level engineering gig.”
Afterwards, Jaclyn began assisting and being mentored by multi Grammy-winning engineer & producer Ben Kane in 2014.
“This is where I really learned how to apply the nuances of analog sound,” says Jaclyn. “Ben taught me the nuance of being an engineer sonically, business wise as well. In 2016, Ben asked me to help build and run the sonic sanctuary Electric Garden, a studio built in Brooklyn,NY. This studio continues to function as my home away from home.”
One of her iconic memories thus far is working with analog master, multi Grammy-winning engineer & producer, Russell Elevado. Which afforded the her the opportunity to win a Grammy for Album of the Year with Jon Batiste.
In addition, Jaclyn’s credits include a Grammy nomination for her work with HER and a Latin Grammy win with Cultura Profetica.
She’s had the honor of engineering for incomparable artists such as Ms. Lauryn Hill, Anderson Paak, Robert Glasper, Roberta Flack, Bahamadia, Nile Rodgers, Kurt Elling, Shabaka Hutchings, Bashiri Johnson, Katreese Barnes, Gretchen Parlato, Daru Jones, Binki, Chris “Daddy” Dave, Pete Rock, Common, PJ Morton, Tiffany Gouche, Resistance Revival Chorus, Keiyaa, Tivon Pennicott, Marcus Strickland, Keyon Harrold, J. Hoard, Melanie Charles, Nubya Garcia, among others.
In addition to her work as one of the top sound engineers in the music industry, Jaclyn is an advocate for strengthening community & authentic sharing of personal & professional experiences to help provoke change in the entertainment industry.
She has spoken & taught for organizations like the Audio Engineering Society, Nola MusicCon, Woodshed Network, WAMCon & Berklee College of Music. And currently serves as a member of the Recording Academy’s Producer & Engineers Wing Committee (LA Chapter).
